Spotify Innovates: Labels AI Artists, Excludes from Recommendation Algorithms

by admin477351

Spotify is set to implement new strategies to identify and manage AI-generated artists on its platform, starting in September. These AI-created artist profiles will be marked with an “AI persona” label on their artist pages and track listings. This initiative aims to assist users in distinguishing between genuine musicians and artificial ones while ensuring that real artists do not lose visibility due to the increasing presence of AI-generated content.

In an effort to maintain clarity and authenticity, Spotify will exclude AI personas from personalized recommendations by default. This move underlines the platform’s commitment to transparency, particularly as generative AI becomes more prevalent in the music industry. The company recognizes that listeners increasingly want to know whether the creator behind a track is a human or an AI-generated entity.

Spotify will offer artists the option to disclose if their identities are AI-generated. To bolster this process, the platform plans to deploy both human reviewers and AI-powered tools to detect any AI personas that have not been declared by the artists themselves. This proactive approach is part of Spotify’s broader strategy to manage the rapid growth of AI-generated music content.

The decision to introduce these measures comes amid a significant rise in AI-generated music. Previously, Spotify reported the removal of 75 million spam tracks over a span of 12 months, shedding light on the substantial volume of artificial and low-quality content infiltrating music platforms. This highlights the need for platforms like Spotify to take steps to protect the integrity of musical content available to their users.
