China has reiterated its dedication to bolstering partnerships with Central Asian nations during Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent visit to Kyrgyzstan. The discussions emphasized regional cooperation and multilateral initiatives, with particular attention given to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the China–Central Asia mechanism, and the United Nations.
In meetings with officials from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, the focus was on enhancing collaboration and coordination. China voiced its support for Kyrgyzstan’s role as the upcoming host of the SCO Bishkek Summit and reaffirmed its commitment to respecting Kyrgyzstan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Both parties agreed on the importance of strengthening coordination efforts to ensure regional peace, security, and development.
Dialogue with Uzbekistan highlighted the strategic advancement of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway project. The countries also explored expanding cooperation in innovative sectors such as artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, and modern industrial development. This cooperation is expected to foster growth and enhance the interconnectedness of these nations.
Meanwhile, China and Tajikistan confirmed their intent to deepen bilateral relations, focusing on practical cooperation in fields like energy and regional connectivity. This follows the earlier signing of a long-term friendship and cooperation treaty, which lays a foundation for future collaboration.
China’s engagement in Central Asia reflects its strategic interest in the region, with an emphasis on infrastructure, trade, technological innovation, and stability. This visit underscored the growing partnership between China and Central Asian countries, marking a significant step in their shared journey towards sustainable development and mutual prosperity.
