Kaylee Hottle, celebrated for her role as Jia in the films “Godzilla vs. Kong” and its sequel “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” has tragically passed away at the age of 18. The young actor died following a car accident in Frederick, Maryland, leaving a void in the hearts of those who admired her work and spirit.
The Texas School for the Deaf, where Hottle was a student, confirmed the devastating news and extended their heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, classmates, and all who were touched by her life. The school highlighted the profound impact she had made, not only as an actor but as a cherished member of their community.
The fatal incident occurred early on Tuesday morning when a 1995 Honda Accord veered off the road and collided with a culvert. Local authorities have suggested that excessive speed played a significant role in the accident. Hottle, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was immediately transported to a nearby trauma center; however, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver, a 19-year-old, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, while another passenger involved in the crash opted not to receive medical treatment.
Hottle gained widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Jia, a deaf orphan with a profound connection to Kong, in the MonsterVerse franchise. Her role was lauded for its authenticity and the representation it provided for the deaf community on a global cinematic stage. Her performance not only showcased her acting talent but also brought much-needed visibility and depth to deaf characters in mainstream films.
