In a commendable act of bravery, four passengers aboard a flydubai flight from Dubai to Israel played a crucial role in averting a potential disaster. Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced his intention to recommend these individuals for the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism due to their decisive actions during a high-stakes incident on the aircraft.
The passengers—Yaniv Hayoun, Dr. Shota Musayev, Zvika Manes, and Asaf Rajuan—intervened when one pilot attacked the other in the cockpit. Hayoun, Manes, and Rajuan managed to subdue the attacker, while Hayoun also assisted with the aircraft’s controls. Meanwhile, Dr. Musayev provided crucial medical assistance to the injured pilot until the plane made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
President Herzog praised the passengers for their courage and quick response, emphasizing how their actions helped protect the lives of everyone on board. He also acknowledged the efforts of Indian captain Smit Machchhar for his part in managing the emergency situation.
Herzog plans to present the passengers’ actions to the advisory committee that considers candidates for the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism, highlighting the significant impact of their intervention during the flight. The award is intended to recognize civilians who demonstrate extraordinary bravery and selflessness in the face of danger.
